the last day of summer
since pictures say more than words ever could, i'll limit my background to the basics. just before school started, we made a last-minute trip to yellowstone. (meemer has a great slideshow on her blog) http://meemersworld.blogspot.com/
between the park, the old west feel of west yellowstone montana and jackson wyoming, the indian reservation in idaho on the way up, and resultant discussions of meemer's (and therefore their) shoshone heritage, the boys have become fascinated by native americans. what better way to finish it all off than getting in costume and playing until dinner while watching "dances with wolves?"
brave smiling bear
brave stone face
the great hunt (with authentic yellowstone bows and arrows!)
and of course, chief rumbling bum
yes, he has a costume too, but i didn't get a pix of him in it... it's funny what you can do with some extra fabric, a bag of beads, a hot-glue gun, and some feathers from our chickens!
oh, to answer your question, yes. meemer and i had at least as much fun making the outfits as the boys do wearing them!

they're wearing skirts... very decorative skirts...
oh they're not skirts, they're loincloths. no really. on long piece going under, then hanging over a belt in front and back.
of course is looks like a skirt. a skirt with slits up to the belt line on both sides!
Sorry big-D they do look like skirts from the picture.
It does look like fun. I am glad to see the ole teepee that Meemer had as a kid still getting some good use.
